Index ETFs don't have their own calculated Value. They hold hundreds of companies — we work out whether the group is expensive or cheap versus its history.

You are 20% below the all-time high, and 166% above the low of the cycle. The signal comes from where you sit in that range.
The floor of the cycle is at $152.98; the ceiling, at $509.70. The closer to the floor, the better the spot to build in slowly.
It has no intrinsic value from fundamentals — the range comes from price highs and lows. The final call is yours; buying gradually (DCA) means a little at a time.
The business
A simple way to hold gold in your portfolio without storing bars at home.
GLD is an exchange-traded fund that holds no company shares, but physical gold stored in vaults. Each share represents a fraction of that stored metal, so its value moves along with the price of gold on the world market. It pays no dividends or interest: it just tracks the metal.
Its advantage as a vehicle is that it gives you access to gold without having to buy, transport, or store physical bars, with an easy way to buy and sell on the exchange.
Catalysts and risks
Flight to safety when there's fear or economic uncertainty
Structural demand from central banks that stockpile gold in their reserves
Periods of high inflation or weak currencies that push people toward the metal
Gold generates no income: no dividends or interest, it only depends on its price going up
It charges an annual fee that slowly eats into your investment over time
It's a single, concentrated, and very cyclical theme, with sharp historical highs and lows and no intrinsic value to support it
Charlie's note
“Gold produces nothing on its own, so here discipline and low cost matter more than trying to guess the exact moment to get in or out.”
