JEPI reúne una selección de acciones estadounidenses de gran tamaño, parecidas a las del índice S&P 500 (las 500 empresas más grandes de EE.UU.), y encima aplica una estrategia con opciones para generar ingresos periódicos. En la práctica busca pagar dividendos mensuales a cambio de renunciar a parte de las subidas fuertes del mercado.
Como vehículo, te da diversificación instantánea y una estrategia con opciones que sería complicada y costosa de armar por tu cuenta, todo dentro de un solo fondo líquido (fácil de comprar y vender).
Catalysts and risks
Interés creciente de ahorradores que buscan ingresos periódicos en lugar de solo esperar que suba el precio.
Estrategias que suelen comportarse mejor en mercados laterales o de alta volatilidad (movimientos bruscos).
Flujos constantes de dinero hacia fondos que reparten pagos mensuales.
Cobra una comisión anual (costo de gestión) mayor que un fondo simple que solo replica un índice.
Renuncia a parte de las grandes subidas: en mercados muy alcistas suele quedarse atrás.
Depende del mercado de acciones de EE.UU. y de estrategias con opciones que pueden fallar en caídas fuertes.
